What started out as an awareness of shoes, jewelry, and jean jackets back in the ‘80s has progressed to a full-fledged passion for fashion as I have gotten older. And if there is anyone to blame for my weakness when it comes to the perfect boot or bag, it is without a doubt my darling friend, Kacey. For years, she has shown me the path to glamour and glitz, sharing stores that cannot be missed, on-line sales and websites, and even gifting me some of my most favorite accessories and tops in my closet.
In our world, Kacey is the giver of fashion knowledge, and I am the receiver. Rarely do I ever have anything to offer in return…until now. As luck would have it, the blogosphere has provided me with a golden nugget of a discovery, and an idea.
Meet Tavi Gevinson.
Tavi is a blogger.
More specifically, she is a fashion blogger.
Tavi teaches me everything I need to know about the latest trends in high fashion, giving me a glimpse of the runway looks from fashion houses, such as…
Nicole Miller
Luella
and Prada.
I have no idea how many readers Tavi’s site, Style Rookie, actually has. She claims that it is not 4 million. I’ve read maybe 1.5 million. Who knows. It is probably safe to say that Tavi has more readers than Kacey and me.
And although she claims to be a “rookie,” Tavi’s eye for fashion is taking her places. For starters, she was invited to a number of different shows during Fashion Week in New York earlier this year, sitting front and center as the latest creations from Marc Jacobs walked down the runway.
The best part in all of this?
Tavi is 13 years old.

Ahem.
At age 13, Tavi has accomplished more with her blog than most of us ever will.
I am amazed by this. I am humbled.
Most importantly, I am inspired.
Each and every day of my life, I think about our little blog. What am I going to write about? When was the last time I commented? What can I do to get more traffic to our site? Do I even care about traffic?
After becoming a faithful reader of Tavi’s blog, I realized that my focus is all wrong. My mission should be to aid the next generation of bloggers. Could Giancarlo, Lucia, or even Emi become the next Tavi Gevinson? Kacey and I could rock as champerones at any show during Fashion Week.
I thought it would be best not to delay with “the training.” I noticed that Tavi has started a zine; a collection of stories, magazine clippings, and drawings.
Based on this, Giancarlo and I got to work yesterday. Here is what we came up with:
Entitled: The Fishin’ Book
About fishin’.
Once upon a time, there was a man, a baby, and a boy, and a mama who were goin’ fishin’. They wanted to catch a big fish.
And this is the big fish.

Look out Tavi is right…and for the record I think something’s wrong with me, because I think I would have died at age 13 had my mother sent me to school in the outfit Tavi is wearing in those photos.
And I would have been ridiculed.

First of all, do we think that Kacey could give ME some fashion advice. Wait NO! It’s not advice I need. It’s just a personal shopper. Somebody who knows my current style, wants to pep me up and make me look HOT MAMA and goes shopping for me. I can get myself dressed in the morning but the fashion part? Yeah. Not really happening over here. I’m too busy trying to distinguish the cute boy clothes from all the other boring boy clothes that are out there. And remember, with three boys (plus Husband) in my house, I don’t even get to play girlie fashion with my kids.
Secondly, Tavi? Really? Holy amazement batgirl! Kudos to her!
