Generation Change

IT’S A MIRACLE!  I’m happy to report that I actually accomplished my new year’s resolution this year.  The real miracle is that I even set one in the first place – this, followed by another miracle of me taking it halfway seriously.  What was this remarkable deed you ask?  Sewing a Halloween costume for Emi.  Even though Emi didn’t actually wear the costume, it was made.  That was the point, right?

I know, I know.  What could I possibly do to top such an altruistic, impact-making, life-altering achievement?  The answer: Check almost everything off of the Generation Change handbook.  You heard right friends, I’m going to try and do some right.  Just like  Jay-Z said:

Cops wanna knock me

DA wanna box me in

But somehow I beat the charges like Rocky

Hmm…I guess the emotion of those lyrics contextually made more sense before I wrote them down.

One of my dear friends, Jayan Kalathil, co-authored the recently published, Generation Change, a book, which gives us 150 things, we can each do to help improve the world.

Generation Change - Jacket Art

Sure it sounds hokey, and I’m sure the cynical part of you is cringing, but it really is a great handbook.

A few of my favorites (purely coincidental that they happen to be the easier ones)

5. Blog (Hooray! I can already check this one off)

28. Get More Sleep: I love that this can actually be a part of my New Year’s Resolution.  I’ll be sure Emi gets the memo on this one.

45. Pick up the phone:  A hard one for me, but I’m up for the challenge.

65. Shop Locally

88. Help Save the Arts in Schools: pretty please!

128. Pay Junk Mail to Go Away- got to love 41pounds.org.

Sure there are some I won’t be able to do like, 113. Join the Peace Corps or 72. Run For Office but most of the suggestions are highly attainable and at the very least motivate or inspire you to do something for the better.

Just like Oprah and Ellen we love to giveaway our favorite things, here’s your chance to win a copy of this book.  To enter: simply tell me your New Year’s Resolution for 2010 by Friday, December 25th (Miss Universe answers do not qualify).  The book makes a perfect stocking stuffer.  Good Luck!

Okay, you actually have friends who write books and stuff?

I’m envious. My friends are the ones attending parties without pants and letting their kids jump into the lion’s den at the San Francisco Zoo…

Winner response–Thank you ver much for picking my name. My address is 473 Scott street, Waren, OH 44483. I hope this is the correct place to notify, because it’s the only one I could figure out. The book sounds wonderful and since I’m already trying to stir up a little trouble in my community, I’m hoping to find some more ideas. Thank you.

I know. We suck, don’t we? We are back starting tomorrow, my friend.

How are you doing? How was your trip to SF? More importantly, are you still doing yoga each day and killing yourself?

    xoxo
