Kacey and I headed out to Las Vegas a few weeks ago the attend the SITScation blogging conference. We were excited about our weekend filled with great speakers and the chance to finally meet many of our blog friends in person. What could be better than a weekend away from the kids in Sin City?
At check-in at the Venetian Hotel, I was on cloud nine. Thankfully, the desk clerk recognized my good mood and was happy to play along. As we chatted about the room, I casually asked what celebrities were staying in the hotel. She responded that Kim Kardashian would be celebrating her birthday at Tao, the dance club in the Venetian, on Saturday night.

What?!?
I frantically started looking around the lobby in case Kim was hiding behind a Roman column. The desk clerk assured me that A-List stars do not check-in at the front desk. They have someone from their staff do so and then are escorted into the hotel via a VIP entrance.
No matter. I was not going to be deterred. As a big fan of Kim’s sisters on Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, I was determined to give my birthday wishes to Kim in person. It was fate. Why else would we be in the same city in the same hotel on the very same weekend?
I imagined running into Kim on the casino floor (or in a bathroom…it didn’t matter), and having us gush about how fabulous the other looks. I’d get some kind of pictorial evidence of the life-long bond that we had formed instantaneously, and then be on my way. It was going to be brilliant, completely non-stalker-esque, and most definitely get me a gig as a Dash Girl at Kourtney’s Dash boutique in Miami.
Being a big believer in the power of positive thinking, I was sure that if I wished hard enough, magic would happen. It is kind of like believing in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I was going to run into Kim Kardashian on the casino floor of the Venetian while on her way to celebrate her birthday at Tao.
Was I able to make magic happen?
YES!!!
Do I have any pictorial evidence?
Um, no.
I swear that I caught a glimpse of Kim and her entourage on their way to the Tao, but without any type of device to record said experience, I have nothing to show my grandchildren someday, or more importantly, to blog about.
It was a dark, dark day in Vegas.
My tale of tragedy and defeat has prompted me to want to make a difference in the world. Don’t be caught empty-handed like I was. Should you have the opportunity to meet a celebrity, be prepared. You should be armed and ready to capture even the briefest moments.
My suggestion is that you have a Flip camera with you at all times. It is a camera and a video camera rolled into one. In addition to being small enough to fit inside the palm of your hand, the Flip camera also comes with movie making software and hooks up directly to your computer for video uploading. It is the perfect celebrity stalking tool.
Don’t be left out in the cold should Kim Kardashian cross your path. Otherwise, you’ll just end up telling your story on your blog using pictures like these…

Thankfully, I do have Photoshop to keep us entertained and to make the encounter seem so real and life-like.

So how you can win a black Flip Ultra HD camera all of your own?
The maker of Flip cameras, Pure Digital Technologies, has graciously given us and three of our blog friends one camera to giveaway on each of our blogs this week. To enter the giveaway, simply answer a daily question in the comment section on each of the four host blogs, including 7 Clown Circus, Better In Bulk, Mayhem And Moxie and Mama’s Losin’ It. Easy!
In addition to simply answering questions on each of our sites, you can increase your chances of winning by participating in the daily carnivals we’ve outlined below. Each post you create will earn you FIVE additional entries to the giveaway.
Here’s a sneak peak of the carnivals you may want to link up with this week:
Tuesday “Creepy, Crawly Crafts”: Show us anything that you have created for Halloween here on Mayhem and Moxie. Examples may include Halloween costumes, recipes, crafts, party invites, treats, decorations. You decide. Previously published posts are welcome too!
Wednesday “Ghosts Of Halloween Past”: Link up with 7 Clown Circus by posting pictures and descriptions of Halloween Past. This could be a memorable Halloween from when you were a child or simply a cute story and picture from just last year.
Thursday “Spooky Story Starters”: Link up with Mama’s Losin’ It by choosing a writing prompt and participating in her Writer’s Workshop. Topics include:
1.) Show your spooky side.
2.) Show and Tell using your favorite Halloween home decor.
3.) Write a poem to your child as their Halloween character. (For example, Mama Kat may write a poem to “Pongo”…the 101 Dalmatian her daughter is going to be for Halloween.)
4.) Post a vlog of yourself playing a Halloween prank on a family member or friend.
5.) Describe a favorite Halloween costume or moment you wish you had on video.
Friday “Eat, Drink, And Be Scary”: On all Hallow’s Eve, Lolli from Better In Bulk wants to see want you are making in the kitchen. Show your devilish desserts, give us the scoop on pumpkins, or share your favorite holiday drink. If cooking isn’t your cup of tea, then tell us what you are doing with your leftover Halloween candy. Do you enjoy immediately, save for later, or just bribe your kids with it when needed?
Whew! What a week we are going to have.
Let’s kick things off with today’s question:
What celebrity do you want to record using a Flip Ultra?
(Oh, and you can’t use Kim as your answer. She’s mine.)
Don’t forget to check out Mama Kat’s, Lolli’s, and Angie’s sites each day this week. More responses to questions = more chances to win.
Carnival entries help too. Hope you’ll come back tomorrow for our Creepy, Crawly Craft Day!
Contest is open to US residents and ends on Friday, October 30 at midnight EST. Winners will be picked at random, notified via email, and announced on Halloween! Good luck!
