I dread Sundays because the day after means two things: I have to go to work and even worse I need to get Emi dressed. The latter is NO easy feat. How I long for the days when she was fussy but manageable in the mornings. I could take my time knowing that I’d only need 5 minutes to get her ready and out the door. Now I have to wake up an extra 20 minutes early to allow for what I believe hell must be like. Every morning is a constant battle.
For starters, Emi, like her father, is NOT a morning person. Let me rephrase that, she is not a morning person if I am trying to wake her up. Disregard the 3 nights out of the week that she has woken up at 4AM and insisted on doing puzzles.
Usually after 3 minutes of whining in her crib and dramatically placing her hands over her eyes (because she is being blinded by the natural sunlight) she lets me take her out. This is where the real fun begins—getting her dressed. I’ll spare you the 5 minute whining fit of changing her diaper and just skip to the clothes.
Let me just say I really looked forward to having a little girl to dress up. Sure she let me dress her the first year and a half but now (when there are so many cute options) I apparently have no style. Hello? I do watch the Rachel Zoe show so I’m pretty sure I know something about this season’s must haves. Emi insists on wearing stretchy pants every day. I thought the Nacho Libre phase would be done with but alas, it’s stretchy pants or no pants. Every. Single. Morning.
Moving on to the shirt & socks is another 10 agonizing minutes. By the time we leave the house I’m not a happy camper. I’m sure my first graders will need to attend therapy for all the emotional stress their teacher caused them this year. Interestingly enough my mother just sent me a video of a mother who gets her son ready for school at a comedic pace! This mother resides in Japan – home of the lovely but crazy bento making moms. Currently this mom is my hero. It doesn’t hurt that her son is a team player either. Emi might be making a trip to the motherland in the VERY near future.

I LOVE that video. What the heck is that little egg/veggie poacher/cooker thingie? I want one of those.
When I worked and had to get two babes to daycare (one was 2.5yr old and the other was 6 months) I put them to bed dressed in whatever they were going to wear the next day. Stretchy pants, although not always stylin’, look pretty good after you get up in the morning.

Arg. So hard when kids don’t cooperate and you HAVE to be somewhere.
All of my children but one have been very vocal about their clothing preferences. And not in a good way.
Sometimes it’s downright embarrasing.

I know this struggle, oh I know this struggle well. My kids are early risers but they hate to get dressed. It is a comedy of errors just trying to get diapers on their little butts. Why, I ask, why?

Hey, you can use my blog as the testing of your comment making abilities any time!
Since that was a test I just need to tell you that you are still lacking in your ability to let me have the ability to email you back.
(This is regards to your previous comment)
But I still love you!

As you know I have three people to ready each morning. One is a passive aggressive dissenter, which I can deal with. #1 moans and groans a bit, but he does it while actively readying himself without much intervention from me (all I have to do is ensure his hair is appropriately spiked). #2 on the other hand puts up a battle royale. I usually have to push, shove, and squeeze his pretending-to-be-dead body into his clothes which causes me to break into a very raunchy smelling sweat which generally leads to my overall discord (aka me being totally pissed). It usually winds up with me yelling and him crying. He is the reason I don’t work outside the home during the week. Could not do it. At least #3 wakes up every morning giggling, talking, and singing pleasantly to himself. He sorta, kinda, almost entirely makes up for the other two. Almost.

I cannot imagine trying to dress a little person who can actually argue. Sounds time consuming and utterly miserable. Just wait until she is in high school. Then you really won’t know what hit you.

Kids actually get ready without a fight? I haven’t heard of such a thing! All mine fight, Grant is the only one who did not give me trouble as a baby but now, in kindergarten, forget it! The twins, a total battle. I hope one day they all grow out of it for all of our sakes! LOL
